Advertising on Hulu
Last week we discussed about how advertisers must shift the way they advertise for the internet. For Hulu.com, they have limited commercial interruption. If you are watching a movie, or a show on Hulu, you are forced to see commercials (usually one or two periodically through whatever you are watching). These commercials actually cannot be skipped through because they become sort of separate from whatever you are watching. Actually, each commercial at the top has a little box asking if this commercial is relevant to you and you check yes or no. One of these commercials was Caesar's dog food. This wasn't relevant to me so I clicked no. This element allows for interaction from the viewer. Afterwards the advertisement said "thank you for submitting your response. We will use this information to make your ad experience more relevant to you" or something like that. However, I'm not really sure they did that because I was watching a movie and that commercial came up again. Anyways, the point is that advertisers have found ways to advertise on Hulu. I've also seen this on other websites where you are watching an episode of something, or just watching a regular video.

Yeah I never understood why you have to give it a thumbs up if you like the ad or thumbs down if you don't like it. I think it's good though because its shows I can't find on youtube or anything so if I have to watch a 30 second ad that's fine with me.
ReplyDeleteI see this type of advertising with other online shows. For example, sometimes when I watch an episode of the Office that I missed there are breaks in the show where they show a 30 second advertisement, which I am not able to skip over.
