This summer I have an internship with Sony Music, and as a part of that, I have to promote artists. This week we are concentrating on the band Sleigh Bells and I have to put up posters in indie retailers in the CT area. A poster is an advertisement because it is advertising the artists, the album, and the artist's album artwork or an image that is associated with the artist. In our last reading, we learned about associated value, and for the artist Sleigh Bells, they are trying to break away from the typical image of Christmas and winter that would be associated with actual sleigh bells, and have themselves be associated with hipster/funky/80's vibe artwork. My camera wasn't working so I couldn't take an actual picture of the poster but I listed their website so you can see what their advertising looks like. Their poster is just a picture of a little kid who looks like they're posing for a school picture, with lots of neon colors and just the album name "Treats" underneath. At the bottom, in tiny print is the name of the band. I think this advertisement is eye catching because of weird theme and vibrant colors, however, I believe that because the album name is the most noticeable, that people will think the name of the band is Treats instead of Sleigh Bells.
