Holding all of the Power

http://industry.bnet.com/technology/10005983/googles-advertising-patents-are-competitive-clubs-aimed-at-apple-and-microsoft/

In previous classes I recall discussing how important mobile ads are. We also discussed the importance of having the power of such a company like the MSG network while a player like Lebron James was to play for the knicks. The network would be in total control of the companyiesthey would want to help advertise by selling them time. Apple has the power to do the same thing with their mobile ads.

Adidas Star Wars Parody

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zd_khk6zXo

Saw this commercial today, it was pretty funny. It uses athletes and celebrities to promote its Originals brand. The Originals line features Star Wars, Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk, and David Beckham styled sneakers and apparel.

Walking Advertisements

Jason Sadler, who started the Web site Iwearyourshirt.com.

This guy gets paid to wear tshirts for all sorts companies. The guy is making a ridiculous amount of money for just distributing the pictures of the tshirts through social media. Why cant I have this job?

NBA Draft 2010

This particular photograph was utilized to advertise the NBA draft that took place in Madison Square Garden Last Thursday. These young men photographed were the top selection to players to enter the NBA this year. This event celebrates hard work and dedication to one's craft. These individuals are utilized to advertise basketball and as welll the national basketball association as a whole.

Eat Me!

While Using Facebook, I came across this photograph as my friend's profile picture. I was automatically drawn to the image because of the beautiful woman as well as the title. This form of advertising is using sex and sex appeal to sell fruit. I think this particular photograph would appeal to men more so than women. This photograph makes me want a strawberry in any case.

Stoli Vodka-Hugh Hefner

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X1__f0uYNE

Last week we spoke about Betty White's comeback and the fact that she is older. Hugh Hefner has been big for a few years now, especially since his show on E!. Because his show changed with girls, his popularity began to decline, but now that he is in this vodka commercial, and his show is coming back, I think his popularity will increase again.

Beach Advertisements

I was at Robert Moses beach this weekend and a plane flew by with an ad for Geico and a picture of a pile of money with a rubber band around it and googley-eyes on top. Under the money it said, "The money you could be saving." I think the ad would have been very successful if people didn't already know the Geico ads and just saw money in the sky with googley-eyes. But because people already know the ad they just ignore it.

Boobies

I saw a bumper sticker on a car that said "boobies" and it got my attention so I had to drive up to it to see what the small print was under it. It was a bumper sticker to spread awareness of Breast Cancer. I thought this was a good bumper sticker because it would get a lot of people's attention and knowing that it's for a cause and not just a joke on the back of someones car would make them remember it.

State Farm Commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohC5kyyum4g

It's a few girls that sing "like a good neighbor, state farm is there" and then wish for a hot guy etc. afterwards. State Farm has a lot of different commericials, hoping to reel in different demographics for their insurance company which is awesome. This commercial is obviously targeting teenage-young adult females. Although wishing for a hot state farm agent is not possible, it might attract young females to look up information or possibly stalk state farm agents?

Online Advertising

Everyday when I am on sites such as yahoo or lohud I see many advertisements. On Yahoo today, I saw an advertisement for an American Express Credit card. Also, when I went on the journal news site, I saw an advertisement for Iona College Advertising the summer session 2. I like how that you are able to click the advertisement if you want to find out more about the advertisement.

Macys 4th of July Fireworks

On Sunday I was reading the New York Times and the last advertisement on the back of the main section was an advertisement for the Macys 4th of July Fireworks Celebration in the City. Even though it is not advertising a product in its store, this advertisement is getting the Macys name out there through this New York 4th of July Tradition. Macys also does the same thing in November when they sponsor the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Jeep vs Ubisoft

Jeep uses its events like auto-shows to display and announce their products. They show the all the new stuff or stuff thats not even new yet, stuff people want to see.

The game developer Ubisoft does this in the same way, only though the video game conference called E3. This event allows developers to show off their upcoming projects, release details, answer questions, provide demos (test drive) and basically grab the attention of their customers. A bad run at E3 could dampen the success of a game, and a good one could propel it to gaming glory. The event also gives the company a chance to interact with its loyal customers and makes them seem more human.

http://www.ubi.com/US/default.aspx

Jeep/American Express

Jeep reienforces the idea of being a customer centered company by providing their vehicle owners with the best vehicles possible. They do this through their advertising such as showing customers using their vehicles in all different types of terrain and having fun while inside the vehicle.

American Express, like Jeep sponsors major events such as the US Open Tennis tournament. Since American Express is a sponsor of the US Open Tennis tournament, they allow their customers to purchase tickents to the tournament before the tickets go on sale to the public. American Express also does this with many other ticket sales in that they allow their customers to purchase tickets to a concert before anyone else.

Camp Jeep/Iphone 4

At camp jeep the advertisers try to build an adventures relationship experience with the customers. The test drives that they provide at these camps sites makes every viewer want to try out this experience.

The advertisers at for the new Iphone 4 states the customers that with this new technology communication will be an extraordinary experience and easy where you see were your friends and family are anywhere in the world where and with all of the new technology that has been added it will make communication easy.

Jeep/ Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

The Jeep Company does a great job hosting events for its customers such as the Great "Jeep Jamboree." This allows Jeep owners alike to come out and push their car through the roughest conditions, up steep hill, over rocks, and through the water. Events like this create a relationship with the customer, creating a family like environment. Mercedes Benz also does a good joins up with the top designers in New York for one of the biggest events of the year, Fashion Week. This makes all those fashionistas and high profile socialites come together once a year to discuss this years newest trends and gossip about the latest cars. Mercedes Benz invites its all of its clients to join in on the fun during fashion week, which makes there clients feel important and appreciated because they're being invited to a sneak peak on the latest trends.

Jeep/New York Giants: Both come in blue!

I logged onto Jeep.com and clicked on the link titled Jeep Experience and clicked on "Events." It led me to a page on their website that had YouTube videos of people driving Jeeps at their sponsored events. It showed the people were having a good time behind the wheel of a Jeep. it also shared links of a cute kid's game and Jeep on Facebook. These are clever strategies to make Jeep seem hip to the scene with their customers: YouTube, games, and Facebook. That certainly reinforces customer relationships just by showing they are willing to expand their brand to all media outlets. Touche, Jeep. Well done.

An organization I found that does similar tactics is the New York Giants. The New York Giants are moving into a brand new stadium, The Meadowlands, therefore they are really trying to grab your attention when you log on to their website. They offer you videos of there mini camp practices just to see how the team is progressing. They have the roster, schedule, shop, etc. but the thing that caught my eye that shows how they want reinforce customer relationships is the headline/link that reads "You Belong in the Company of the New York Giants".

You click there and it shows you images of their new stadium and what it offers the fans. They play powerful macho music to put you in the mood for watching some football. They show you offers on purchasing tickets to the new stadium. If you aren't too familiar with this franchise, the New York giants are a class organization and a traditional football team. They play in New york (New Jersey actually, but bear with me), they understand that their fans are high demanding and loyal. Most NFL teams, especially the Giants, aim to please their customers and fans to keep them coming back

Just like Jeep.

Jeep/Red Bull

Jeep's events allow for everyday people to test out Jeep's power and ability. The events not only allow the customer to just buy an ordinary car, but to buy a car that should be experienced, and a person can have fun in.

Another company that totally reminded me of this is Red's Bulls Flugtag. Red Bull's slogan is "it gives you wiiiiings" and so they've added a summer event Flugtag campaign. Flugtag, as it is listed on the site, "Red Bull Flugtag challenges teams of everyday people to build homemade, human-powered flying machines and pilot them off a 30-foot high deck in hopes of achieving flight! Flugtag may mean "flying day" in German, but all these crafts ultimately splash into the waters below. They are judged not only on their flight's distance, but creativity and showmanship as well." It develops a relationship with the customer in giving them hope, somewhat, that if they drink Red Bull, and attempt to fly the machine, they will have physical wings from their machine as well as imaginary help from Red Bull's energy drink. It allows for a fun time and also allows for their slogan to have some meaning behind it. Also, because it is a competition, and it requires skill, it allows for people to create these cool flying machines, which no other company in the world hosts or ever thought of.

Although Red Bull's Flugtag doesn't involve people making something out of Red Bull itself, it allows for experience and have the brand's message/mission statement come alive and be experienced.

Geico!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFIZTYK4CR0

Jeep.com

I think that Jeep.com has good events to build and reinforce customer relationships. Their events have videos so you can not only hear people laughing and cheering, but also see their smiles while driving a jeep. One event they had was a woman going down a zipline which looked like a lot of fun. I think holding events that people enjoy and have a lot of fun at is very effective for consumers. Nathan's Hotdogs has their famous hotdog eating contest every 4th of July holiday. They sponsor this event with their hotdogs, and people from all over come to compete and watch. Since it's on the 4th of July it's family oriented which gives Nathan's a good name.

RCN Sponsors New York Swim!

http://www.nycswim.org/

During the summer of 2009, I was fortunate enough to intern at RCN New York City. As an Intern at this particular company, my job was to aid in event planning for major events such as the New York Swim and the New York city Triathlon. RCN utilizes such events in order to promote their image as a cheap alternative to Verizon and other cable company. At the New York Swim, my job was to pass out t-shirts, hose off swimmers, and pass out bags with the RCN logo. The company had an elborate tent with key information about their prices and rates.

This concept highly relates to that of Jeep. The overall goal of the Jeep enterprise is to sell their products utilizes various marketing schemes. For example by having an ad on facebook, customers are more likely to buy the product. This relates to that of the RCN brand as a whole. By having a tent at a major event, this alone might entice customers to want to set up an account with RCN. This is an effective tool of getting to product out to the public

JEEP / GAP

The events work because they make customers feel like when they buy a JEEP they aer becoming a part of a group. They are notified when events are taking place and other JEEP owners are invited as well. This keeps a connection between JEEP and its customers and because the customers feel important word of mouth will probably help JEEP earn new clients.

For example, GAP has joined with (RED) a fundraiser for AIDS, every time someone buys a (RED) product half of the proceeds go towards the fight against AIDS. GAP and (RED) have concerts throughout the year to help this cause. Therefore, people who have purchased theses items can not only help the fight against AIDS but can also be apart of concerts yearly that are held for the fundraiser. In fact the concerts and fundraiser have helped over 5 million people diagnosed with AIDS and HIV.

Amazon Market Strategy Top Notch!

By now, everybody knows Amazon.com and what it does so I'm not here to explain the concept to you. But the simplicity of Amazon.com's marketing strategy is rather brilliant. When you first log in, right there, they have their biggest item with the price shining right in your face. Your attention is already captivated by it. Then you look over to the left of the screen, it is a department list that covers books to automobile parts. Simply put, it can offer you ANYTHING. And who doesn't love a website that can offer you anything at a bargain price.

Speaking of bargain prices, if you scroll down lower, you see other products that other Amazon users are browsing at that exact time. Amazon makes sure that they show how they've slashed the prices and made the products cheaper and more attainable.

Amazon.com Team A

Amazon.com employs many direct marketing strategys. For instance when you open the website and have signed in, there is a section named "Recommended for you Today" and it'll say either in Books, Games, Computers, etc. And under that they have groups of items you have previously looked at. For me it was Entertainment, Netbooks, TV Video, and watches. They had two new categories also. Your recent search history is at the bottom of the homepage. When you search an item there is a section undernearth labeled "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought." They have many other things on the website with your name next to it. On the top it says "Hello Robert" and underneath says "Robert's Amazon.com". Next to Hello Robert it says "We have recommendations for you." And you can click it and look at "Today's Recommendations for you."

Effective NYY/Nike Advertisement.

This particular joint advertisement is find particularly effective. First you have the easily recognizable New York Yankee symbol in plain sight; you then have the instantly recognizable Nike Logo. They are both right near each other. So automatically, these two iconic logos have your attention.

Then the poster shows the Yankee closing pitcher Mariano Rivera, who is arguably the greatest closer in the history of baseball. Any baseball fan and every Yankee fan can easily recognize him. That gives the advertisement a sense of grandeur because you only see Mariano Rivera when the Yankees are about to claim victory; therefore, you know this advertisement should be uplifting. There is a long stanza depicting how tough and difficult it could be living in New York City. It explains how everything that can go wrong will go wrong. It seems bleak at first, but you know the stanza is leading to a conclusion so epically simple, you feel almost enlightened.

"......when we wonder if it's really, worth it, we have the Yankees."

There it is right there. The point of the advertisement comes so clear right there. The slogan at the bottom that reads "NY stands for New York" essentially resonates with Nike's slogan "Just Do It." They both basically say no matter what may be wrong or may seem unfair in your life, you have to persevere and win. And given how winning is synonymous with both The New York Yankees and Nike, I'd saying this dynamite poster is a match made in advertising heaven.

Bad Advertisement

Kia Commercial not effective

We found that this commercial was not effective because the characters that they used seem completely unrealistic and out of place. By adding cartoon characters seems like this commercial was advertising to kids, who can't drive anyway and are not going to Las Vegas because obviously they are under age. We understand that the toys are suppose to make KIA seem like a fun car to drive but it was a little distracting and didn't explain any important information that would make someone want to buy that car. For example, they are using kids toys and at the end of the commercial a child gets in the car, therefore they should give more explanations to why this car would be good for American families.

I like this ad of Sony because of how they try to display all of there stereo products in one showcase.

Video Games are bad?

I thought this ad was pretty funny at first, because they tried to make video games seem very serious and real life based. However, the advertisers redeem them selves by putting a comment that explains video games trick children into believing a violent reality that could change them.

the hard times of rj berger

I show a commercial for this new MTV TV show during the VMA's. I thought it was very smart to have to have these ads run during the VMA's because it almost forced people to watch them... Just like when people watch the Super Bowl commercials.. So i watched the premiere after the VMA's and the show was actually really really funny

GoDaddy.com

I saw this commercial and i thought it was really weird. I understand the concept and from an advertising aspect get the whole just hanging around talking to friends about the this cool new website. but it doesn't capture my attention to go and find out what this website it about. As we can see i couldn't remember the name of the website and therefore had to ask a classmate.

Lakers!

The Lakers recently won their 16th NBA Championship. This particular photography is advertising as well as celebrating the Lakers Franchise to the general public. Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest are pictured celebrating as they were two pivotal individuals in the championship game. This not only advertising the NBA and the Lakers, it advertises BASKETBALL as a whole

Ole!

This image depicts a young boy who gets the chance to pick ten of the world's best footballers in to join his team. This was an expert form of advertising by Adidas because it makes these majestic figures look like regular kids who wanted to picked on a team. It was also smart to use a little boy because that is a every little boys dream.

The Soloist

I watched the Soloist this weekend with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. who worked for the LA Times in the movie. I thought it was an ad for the paper because it kept showing the building, gave it positive characteristics, and since the audience was supposed to like the reporter by the end of the movie I think the audience would think positively about the LA Times now too.

Toy Story 3

When I went to the movies I don't know if it was just the theatre I was at, but there was a movie preview for Toy Story 3 before the movie began which I thought was weird because it was a preview for the movie I was going to see in a few minutes.

Glamour Kills- Create Love Campaign

Although this was a few weeks ago, the clothing brand Glamour Kills started a campaign called Create Love, in which the summer line was revolved around. However, this campaign was for fans, bands, and anyone else to submit photos of themselves holding up a sign that would say "I create ____ and I love ___." The founder and designer would then pick a certain amount of those pictures and put them together for their advertisement in Alternative Press magazine. I really love idea because it gets everyone involved in the brand and is more sincere and genuine than most ads. Also, the brand is spreading the message to "Create Love" which is always a great message.

Advertising on Hulu

Last week we discussed about how advertisers must shift the way they advertise for the internet. For Hulu.com, they have limited commercial interruption. If you are watching a movie, or a show on Hulu, you are forced to see commercials (usually one or two periodically through whatever you are watching). These commercials actually cannot be skipped through because they become sort of separate from whatever you are watching. Actually, each commercial at the top has a little box asking if this commercial is relevant to you and you check yes or no. One of these commercials was Caesar's dog food. This wasn't relevant to me so I clicked no. This element allows for interaction from the viewer. Afterwards the advertisement said "thank you for submitting your response. We will use this information to make your ad experience more relevant to you" or something like that. However, I'm not really sure they did that because I was watching a movie and that commercial came up again. Anyways, the point is that advertisers have found ways to advertise on Hulu. I've also seen this on other websites where you are watching an episode of something, or just watching a regular video.

Supermarket Advertising

Each week I go food shopping at Stew Lenords. Since im learing about advertising I noticed that they advertise some of their products while driving up to the top of the hill. They advertise products such as Lobster Rolls for 7.99, Chicken Salad for 5.99, Milk 2.99, Cheese 3.99. I like that they advertise along the side and having photos of the product too, so you see a good deal before you get inside the store.

Advertising in Movies

Last Friday, I went to see the new movie Toy Story 3. It was very good. Before the movie, there were advertisements for optimum, as well as a video game relating to toy story 3 as well as advertisements previewing future movies.

Beauty by Urban Outfitters

As I was shopping online, I came across an interesting advertisement for Urban Outfitters. This particular image caught my eye because of the Woman that pictured and the title above it. This woman would not be considered the conventional "form" of beauty. However, I found her absolutely stunning and I think this promotes a new form of beauty. Furthermore, I believe she was utilized to represent a new way of thinking and a way of looking at beauty.

World Cup Fever Promoted By Nike Football

Nike Football utilized football sensation Didier Drogba to promote their brand as well as the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. This particular image shows Didier Drogba playing for Ivory Coast. This subtle form of advertising was effectively utilized to educate the general public that the World Cup was just around the corner. Since the event is hosted in Africa, It was smart of Nike to utilize an African Football Star.

Cristiano Ronaldo parades highly toned torso in Armani ads ahead of his first appearance at the World Cup Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvsho

I found this article very interesting not only because i am a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, but it really makes me laugh when everyone becomes a sports fan because they have a crush on the athlete. This is Ronaldo first time at the world cup and although his pictures may be nice, he unfortunately wasn't able to pose nicely when the referee pulled a yellow card out on the new Armani Model during Portuals games vs. their African opposition. It is clear that sex appeal sells, and that is exactly what Armani and Ronaldo have done with these Ad's, so the close to the World Cup.

KIA ads

I was watching TV the other night and there was a KIA ad that i just didn't understand. Slideshow of Funny Ads

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3mcyGNRsfmI

I came across a slideshow of funny ads. Some of these ads are outragous and can't be real. This is a must see video, that is kind of long, but ver funny. It shows bilboards advertising eveything from Medical Marijuana, to Planters Peanuts, cars, even Ray Ban Sunglasses.

Hilarious 2010 Fifa World Cup advertisement

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JulchDaccP4

I think its interesting how Hyundai used the World Cup as an example to make a comparison to their company. They made a funny commercial, which I thought could leave a lasting impression on someone.

I was looking through the internet for pictures and i saw this photo and it made me thirsty, so i decided to spot out which one to feed my thirst. I looked around in the picture for my favorite drink (Ice Tea) but it wasn't there so I picked the next best thing which was Nestea. This picture to me shows that even though you have a preference, there's always gonna be something as good if that item is not achievable.
http://www.infinitybells.com/

This summer I have an internship with Sony Music, and as a part of that, I have to promote artists. This week we are concentrating on the band Sleigh Bells and I have to put up posters in indie retailers in the CT area. A poster is an advertisement because it is advertising the artists, the album, and the artist's album artwork or an image that is associated with the artist. In our last reading, we learned about associated value, and for the artist Sleigh Bells, they are trying to break away from the typical image of Christmas and winter that would be associated with actual sleigh bells, and have themselves be associated with hipster/funky/80's vibe artwork. My camera wasn't working so I couldn't take an actual picture of the poster but I listed their website so you can see what their advertising looks like. Their poster is just a picture of a little kid who looks like they're posing for a school picture, with lots of neon colors and just the album name "Treats" underneath. At the bottom, in tiny print is the name of the band. I think this advertisement is eye catching because of weird theme and vibrant colors, however, I believe that because the album name is the most noticeable, that people will think the name of the band is Treats instead of Sleigh Bells.

Spongebob Mac n' Cheese

The other day I ate Spongebob mac n' cheese. There are so many things to be said about advertisement of this product. First of all, Kraft and Nickelodeon have cross advertised food and a cartoon character. Spongebob, well known, is in shapes of pasta that will attract kids (and older kids like me who are still fans- I'm not the only one) to want to buy this mac n' cheese because it is fun and playful. Also, Kraft mac n' cheese is the only brand of mac n'cheese that seems to do these popular characters, thus it is an exclusive item for Kraft, which is great for their advertising. The front of the box has a fun picture of Spongebob and his characters that are the shapes of the macaroni. Also, on the back of the box is a collectable trading card; there are 3 in total, which is a great advertising strategy (as learned in our earlier readings) to entice kids to want to collect all three, and thus buy more mac n' cheese.
